Job Title: Senior Accountant
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Primary Responsibilities

Transactions Processing (50%)
• Prepare and validate transaction bookings for investments, quarterly investment valuation, and other investment-related information that is uploaded into the portfolio accounting system and used for accounting, reporting, and monitoring
investments.
• Perform all related tasks (e.g., getting sufficient information and recording transactions and other information in the system).
• Perform/review pre-defined analyses/checks necessary to ensure correct recording.
• Investment Accounting does apply the ‘4-eye principle’ for all its entries. Senior Accountants -are trusted to review/validate a broad range of transactions and other information in the system concerning all kinds of investments showing a general understanding of GAAP.

Reporting (20%)
• Prepare/Review and analyze monthly/quarterly and annual financial reports (Financial Statements, Capital Accounts, and other reporting for investors and management.
• Senior Accountants will review and analyze a broad range of reports prepared by Staff Accountants and can update/create reports/checks based on information needs.

Support to other Teams (10%)
• Provide support to the investment teams located in the different offices during the deal closing process, and afterward during the various stages of the investment process, by providing them with financial and other deal-related information and
analysis, both on a regular as well as an ad-hoc basis.
• Provide information to other internal and external parties like auditors.

Manage and control processes (10%)
Safeguard the integrity of all information in the accounting system by applying Process Ownership:
• Senior accountants are responsible for control that assigned processes are executed up to standard and timely by everyone in the team.
• As a ‘process owner’ keep oversight over assigned process(es) to ensure timely delivery and if necessary, redistribute the workload.
• Ensure proper execution in the team of assigned processes through training and control.
• Using available tools such as process descriptions and check reports to ensure proper execution of the reviewing.
• Prepare and update process descriptions for assigned processes and take responsibility for keeping these up to date. Additional responsibility to initiate and realize improvements in the processes where possible.
• Execute project tasks as part of process improvements.

Development of Professionals (10%)
• Assist in the professional development of junior colleagues by involving the juniors in the work they perform, so that they develop further.
• Provide input to the appraisal process.

Requirements

Education & Certificates
• Bachelor/master’s degree in business administration or in business economics, ideally with qualified accounting certification.
• Good understanding of US GAAP and IFRS guidelines, including the ability to research specific accounting treatments.

Professional Experience
• Minimum 4 years of working experience in an accounting-related role, ideally in financial services.
